Runners Start the Year on a High!
Sunday 5 October 2014
New Year 7 Sports Scholar Ellie Gilmore (above left) has been quick toimpress. Ellie has been competing in the
5k
‘Park Runs’ in Alexandra Palace
this summer, setting an impressive personal best time of 21mins 55 seconds. She
has consistently finished as the fastest female in the event, fastest in
her age group and, on average, places 11th behind all men!
Since joining Queenswood, Ellie has won the U13 Girls 1500 metres in an open meet for her
club, in a time of 5 minutes 27 seconds – this beats
the current Queenswood Year 7 school record! She has also recently won the Middlesex
and Hertfordshire Club Road Relays with her teammates from Highgate
Harriers.
Sport Scholar
sisters Rebecca and Jess Hurley (above) were also at the Herts and Middlesex Road Relay Championships, Rebecca helping her team to the Under 17 County title and Jess winning a medal for fastest U15 Herts girl.
On the same weekend, another Year 7 athlete, Holly Hodgkinson (above left) competed in the SEAA Road relays. Her team surpassed all expectations and won
the event – in the process they beat the reigning National Champions! It was a great race by all of the girls and
the scale of the event, with over 70 teams from nine counties, was huge.
What
an impressive start to the season – we can’t wait for the first round of the
English Schools Cross Country Cup and the Mid Herts Schools Cross Country event
later this term!
