Strategic Developments – A Summer of Renovations
Monday 14 October 2024
Whilst the summer holiday was a chance to unwind and relax at the end of an action-packed academic year for many in the Q community, for some departments, the work continued.
Our Lettings team were busy welcoming visitors from across Europe for a series of residential language schools, tennis camps and a brand new fencing course, as well as the usual activity weeks for young children. You can find out more about their work here.
Meanwhile, the Maintenance and Estates teams worked tirelessly to complete refurbishment and renovation projects around the site.
The second phase of the ABC redevelopment has now been realised, with the redesigned classrooms on the top floor now featuring the highly adaptable furniture that allows for greater collaboration and interaction in learning.
The central concourse of this unique building has been transformed, accommodating stylish lockers on all three floors for the whole of Years 7, 8 and 9. This has the added benefit of allowing us to return the Old Gym to its original purpose within the PE department.
In the Library, a magnificent staircase has been installed near the entrance, allowing access to the mezzanine level. This will become a quiet study haven for a number of Year 11 students.
The AstroTurf pitch has been completely relaid, with brand new LED lighting.
In Centre, we have created two brand new boarding houses. Mymwood House is the new home for all full boarders in Year 9 and above, as well as weekly boarders in Years 9 and 10, while Swanwick House is a dedicated space for flexi-boarders in Years 9 and 10. The teams are making the last finishing touches to beautify and accessorise these new facilities, and we’ll bring you a full report on these exciting new developments very soon.
The school community is extremely grateful to everyone who has contributed to these projects, which will have a lasting positive impact on the life and learning of many generations of Queenswoodians.
