Strategic Developments: Renovations in Science and the ’ABC’
Wednesday 6 September 2023
As part of our five-year strategy, we are delighted to announce that extensive work has taken place during the summer holidays on two significant development projects.
In the Science Department, two laboratories have been entirely reconfigured, creating versatile, collaborative working spaces for practical scientific experimentation. The ceiling drop-down pods for gas and electric will be installed in the coming weeks. This marks the beginning of a programme of extensive refurbishment, which will see every laboratory in the department upgraded in due course.
The first stage of the renovation of the Audrey Butler Centre (our main teaching block commonly known as the ABC) has also taken place this summer.
This is a radically transformative project, and the work will be completed in phases. So far, the classrooms on the ground and first floors have been completely reimagined, with flexible seating arrangements and soft furnishings.
Mrs Cameron remarked: ‘At Queenswood there is no doubt that we are experts in teaching girls. We are incredibly proud of this fact and we know that there are many elements that contribute towards our success.
‘One of these elements is providing our students with the most appropriate environments and facilities for them. By considering how girls learn best we should also consider the environment they work in. This is why we are excited to be able to refurbish and modernise two of our most significant academic work spaces.
‘Both of these areas have been designed to create modern and digitally enabled spaces that encourage collaborative learning as well as breakout areas for individual study.’
We look forward to bringing you updates on progress in the months to come.
