Success for Queenswood’s U12 Teams at District Netball Finals
Thursday 19 March 2015
Queenswood entered both A and B teams into the annual district netball tournament held at Stanborough School on 18 March 2015. The U12A team were drawn against Dame Alice Owens (DAO), Mount Grace (MG) and Stanborough School in Pool A, while the U12B team competed in a round-robin tournament against Chancellors, Bishops Hatfield, Monks Walk, DAO and Stanborough.
The U12A first match was against a strong DAO school. The team, led by Hannah Kilpatrick, competed well, and just lost out 3-2 on the final whistle. The second match against Stanborough saw Queenswood pick up the pace, and with some fine shooting from Melina Leonidou and Megan Langley, the team won the game 8-0. Their final group match against MG, saw yet another convincing win. The strong defence of Aminat Mohammed and Sahara Bailey-Joseph ensured yet another clean sheet, with Queenswood winning 7-0. This result ensured Queenswood U12a team qualified for the semi-finals as group runners-up.
The team were drawn against winners of Pool B; Chancellors. Having only recently played them in a very tight contest in the league, the girls knew it would be a strong and competitive match. Queenswood started strongly. There was some excellent play down the court from Claudia Brin and Hannah Kilpatrick, as well as some accurate shooting which meant the half time score was 3-2 to Queenswood. Chancellors stepped up their game and came out stronger after the break, putting increasing pressure on the Queenswood defence. The girls fought until the end but lost out 5-3.

The U12B team produced their finest netball to date and were crowned district netball tournament winners 2015! They recorded four wins and one draw against some tough opposition.
Their first match against Monks Walk started slowly. Queenswood were creating opportunities but the strong wind was affecting shooting accuracy. However, with the defence of Becky Walter and Eleanor Blakemore nullifying any chances the opposition had, and Queenswood consistently battling, we ended up winning 2-0. The second match against DAO was mainly a mid-court action match. Play was back and forth but with minimal chances at either end, the result finished in a goalless draw. The next three matches saw Queenswood step up a gear. Holly Hodgskinson and Lexi Mackay produced fast-paced, accurate play down the court and GA Lizzie Abelman was making the most of all opportunities presented to her. Queenswood recorded incredible wins against Chancellors 9-1, Stanborough 9-1 and Bishops Hatfield 7-0. Huge congratulations to the girls involved who all played a part in the impressive tournament win. We wish them luck for their district league final next Tuesday v DAO.
