Summer Holiday Fun On Your Doorstep…

Monday 8 July 2024

After an action-packed Summer Term, the holidays are finally here, and it's time for some fun! We've combined our Weekend Fun and On Your Doorstep features to give you great ideas for local activities you can enjoy during the break.

Wishing you lots of sun, fun, and special moments!

For some outdoor fun this holiday, check out the summer events taking place at beautiful Ashridge House. On selected Friday evenings in July and August, you can enjoy live music, a delicious BBQ, and drinks at the Sunset Sessions. If you love outdoor movies, pack a picnic and watch the original Top Gun film, Dirty Dancing or The Greatest Showman on the Italian lawn, or explore the historic grounds and check out the vibrant urban art on display in the Upfest Art House Exhibition. Click here for more information.

If a trip to the theatre is your thing, you can make some super savings this summer. Between 24 July and 6 September, the Kids Week initiative means that under 18s go free to any participating production when accompanied by a full paying adult. Shows available this year include Choir of Man, Back to the Future and Hamilton - but tickets are selling fast, so book soon to avoid disappointment!

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside! If you're not heading overseas this summer, there are some great seaside towns to explore, just a train ride away from Central London. Catch a train from St Pancras or Victoria and head to Brighton for a fun-packed day. You can stroll along the Palace Pier, shop up a storm in The Lanes and 'take the weight off' in a deckchair on the iconic pebble beach. Alternatively, fabulous Whitstable is just 1 hour and 15 minutes from St Pancras by fast train. Admire the pretty beach huts, enjoy delicious fish and chips from Ossies and soak up the seaside atmosphere!

There is a weekend of festivities planned at Hatfield House in July. On Saturday 20 July, the Battle Proms picnic concert will take place in the Queen Elizabeth Oak Field and it promises to be a spectacular summer celebration with music, fireworks, cannons and cavalry! Tickets are available here. The entertainment will continue on Sunday 21 July with the annual 'Folk by the Oak' festival. Headlining this year are The Levellers, best known for their hit What a Beautiful Day. Buy your tickets in advance here.
