The Growing Pains of Adrian Mole
Wednesday 7 May 2014
GCSE Drama students performed their own riotous adaptation of the classic comic diary in April 2014. No play of this book exists so a lengthy process of reading, editing, drafting and redrafting scripts had to be undertaken. The girls made great use of multi-role and an ingenious in-the-round set of door-frames to propel the action forward.
We were all devastated to hear of the death of Sue Townsend, author of the Adrian Mole books, over the Easter break. She was a unique comic talent and her work brought much joy and laughter to the rehearsal room. For the girls, the experience was rather like a PSHE lesson. Adrian may be an anti-hero from the 80s but to a new generation of fans he is still loveable and very real.
