The Vaudevillains’ – Murder, Music and Mayhem in the Clarissa Farr Theatre
Friday 8 April 2016
For two nights in March, the Clarissa Farr Theatre was transformed into The Empire, a seedy, sleazy music hall fleapit, for the GCSE Drama students’ production of The Vaudevillains.
The girls performed with great verve and a delicious sense of the macabre to stage this exciting and challenging musical. When the impresario of the Empire, Charlie, is shot dead on stage during a performance, every one of the freakish acts on the bill falls under suspicion.
Bizarre characters such as trembling knifethrower Ray the Blade, the Cerberus Sisters (triplets joined at the hip), the Great Mephisto (a cross-dressing magician), Gaston the murderous mime, the deranged Albert Frog and his ventriloquist’s dummy Mr Punchy, and a decidedly suspicious Compere, were brought vividly to life.
