Theatre Packed For Queenswood’s Spectacular Dance Showcase

Wednesday 4 March 2015

Highlights from Queenswood’s 123 Dance – The Gallery

Almost 100 dancers, from Year 7 to the Upper Sixth, took part inQueenswood’s fourth annual showcase of choreography, 1,2,3…Dance, on
2 and 3 March 2015. The theme this year was ‘The Gallery’, and each piece was
inspired by a work of art.

The range of styles and skills on display was extraordinary. From hilarious
puppetry to dynamic K-Pop, graceful aerial hoop routines to fifties jive, the
girls were able to express their creativity in so many ways.

There were hugely accomplished solo, duet and trio performances from our
GCSE and A-Level dancers, a gloriously raucous interpretation of ‘Uptown Funk’
from the Sixth Form, some highly innovative sequences incorporating ultraviolet
light from ‘Q-crew’, and dazzling work involving shopping trolleys and plastic
chairs. Some of the dances were set to live music, while others incorporated
video technology.

The success of 1,2,3…Dance
reinforced the popularity of the art form here at Queenswood. Many ensembles and
companies have formed over the last few years, ranging in size and technique,
and every single performer radiated enthusiasm and confidence on stage, and the
packed audiences were tremendously supportive.

We would like to thank Miss Becky Lee for her inspirational creativity in
choreographing so many of the routines, Stewart Jordan and Kevin Moore for
their stunning lighting designs, which showed the facilities of the Clarissa
Farr Theatre to superb effect, and Tim Shaw and his band of musicians and
singers who brought an added dimension to the performance.

It is hard to imagine how 2016’s show can top this!
