This Week in Chapel: Our Community
Friday 29 September 2023
In assembly on Monday and Tuesday, the Head Girl and Deputy Head Girls introduced themselves and set out their plans for this academic year to include a Christmas Fayre to welcome and support the broader Q community. The Head Girl and Deputy Head Girls invited pupils to speak with them not only about issues of concern but also of their needs and new ideas.
In our service on Wednesday and Thursday, pupils from Years 8 and 9 read from the New Testament - 1 Peter, Chapter 5, verses 1-5; this reading is from a letter, written to encourage a community to ‘excel in good conduct, motivated by loyalty and obedience to God’ (Eric Eve, The Oxford Bible Commentary).
The Chaplain chose this reading to illustrate what it means for her to be the Q Chaplain: she is to tend the flock that is in her care (v2), which means all of the Q community, not just those that express a Christian faith but those of other faiths and no faith.
Please join us in prayer this week for:
- The family and friends of Elianne Andam who died on her way to the Old Palace of John Whitgift School in Croydon.
- All those who serve the Q community that when they speak, they will radiate God’s kindness and compassion.
