U13A Team are Runners-Up at Kimbolton Tournament

Monday 19 January 2015

Queenswood U13A team produced someoutstanding netball on Saturday 17th January 2015 to ensure the
runners-up spot at the Kimbolton Tournament. The round-robin style tournament
consisted of five teams: Bedford Girls, Kimbolton, Swanbourne, Witham Hall and
Queenswood.

 The
first match was against Bedford Girls, and at half time the score was 5-1 to
Bedford. Unfortunately due to a collision early in the second half, with the
score at 6-4 to Bedford, play was suspended. When it resumed, the Queenswood
girls put on quite a show and within the last few seconds of the game ensured a
fantastic 9-8 win. We wish a quick recovery to Bedford Girls’ GA player.

Due to the injury, games changed
from 8 minutes each way to 8 minutes one way. This meant starting strong as
there would be no chance to win the game back in the second half. The second
match was against Kimbolton, and with excellent shooting from Gaby M-P and
Katherine Awoleye, Queenswood won the match 5-0. The third match, against
Swanbourne, saw solid defending from Lucy Shaw and Sahara Bailey-Joseph to keep
the opposition at bay. Tiwa Ibikunle, Shaka Egbo and Beth Toeman produced good
link up play to get the ball down the court, and with some excellent movement
in the D, Jasmine Preko netted home a few goals. Final score was a Queenswood
win 5-0.

The
final match was to decide the winner, with both Queenswood and Witham Hall
having won all other games. Witham Hall were particularly well drilled but the
Queenswood girls worked exceptionally hard to gain interceptions and keep the
ball moving, just losing out 4-2 in the end. Congratulations go to all girls
involved for their best netballing performance to date at U13 level.
