U13s enjoy the perfect start to County Cup Week –
Tuesday 14 March 2017
Queenswood enjoyed a great start to County Cup Finals week, with our U13s winning the trophy on Monday 13 March.
We had a very tough semi-final against local rivals Dame Alice Owen. Despite our dominance, the opposition were determined in defence and kept Q out to push us into extra time. After 10 minutes there was still no score and it was time for penalties. We were tied after the first round, with Holly Dench scoring a crucial penalty to take the match to sudden death. On the second round captain Chaela made an imprssive save, leaving Evie Bullman to score the winner – relief!
We endured a long wait while the other semi-final took place; Presdales beat Royal Masonic convincingly and looked strong. The final was a great match – Kirsten Littleford scoring a great first goal, shortly followed by Anniversary Williams’s amazing strike from the top of the D. Presdales kept the pressure on to pull one back but a very tired Queenswood team kept going to the final whistle to win 2-1!
It was the end of a great season for the U13s who in recent weeks have won the Highgate and Royal Masonic tournaments and are now County Cup champions. The coming week sees three more Queenswood teams – U12, U14 and 1st XI – all hoping to match the U13s’ achievement in the county competition.
