UK Eurovision star judges Lower School Singing Competition
Tuesday 11 June 2019
For the final major music competition of the year, we were honoured to welcome two major stars to adjudicate. Natalie Paris, who performs in the sensational West End musical Six, judged the preliminary rounds, and had the very difficult task of whittling a strong field of almost 30 entrants down to a final 16.
Our judge for the final was SuRie, the acclaimed singer-songwriter who represented the UK at the 2018 Eurovision Final. With her experience of performing at the world’s biggest live music event (in front an unimaginable 186 million viewers!) she was perfectly placed to offer incisive words of encouragement and constructive criticism to our young singers.
The programme for the final concert was truly eclectic, and offered a perfect showcase of the variety of the girls’ tastes and talents. Highlights included Bob Dylan’s ‘Make You Feel My Love’, ‘Consider Yourself’ from Oliver!, Lady Gaga’s ‘Always Remember Us This Way’ from the movie A Star is Born, Caccini’s Ave Maria and the hauntingly powerful ‘She Used To Be Mine’ from the musical Waitress.
The Music Department is extremely grateful to Natalie and SuRie for their wisdom and judgement, and would like to congratulate all girls who took part in this extremely successful competition.
