Weekend Fun: Celebrate St George’s Day

Friday 21 April 2023

This Sunday is St George's Day, and there are some fantastic local festivities arranged if you would like to celebrate the national day of England's dragon-slaying patron saint.

If you fancy a trip to the Capital, Trafalgar Square is the venue for the Mayor of London's St George's Day celebrations and with Main Stage performances from Sir Francis, Lost Voice Guy, Sam and The Womp and Das Brass, you will be thoroughly entertained. There will also be a plethora of food stalls serving Britain's favourite dishes including fish and chips and chicken tikka masala. Last year over 20,000 people enjoyed this most patriotic celebration, so there will definitely be a party vibe!

If you would prefer to stay closer to home, you might like to visit the 'green and pleasant land' at Wrest Park in Silsoe. At this English Heritage estate, you can enjoy a weekend of shows, battles, games, performances and activities culminating in England’s most legendary battle. Family favourites such as breath-taking falconry displays, cheeky jester shows and living history encampments will all be making an appearance this year. And if you enjoy DT, why not make your own felt dragon to take along with you! You can use this pattern and follow the video below.
