Given the queues at the pumps, why not ditch the car this weekend and explore the Chilterns by bike? The Chilterns Cycleway is a 170 mile circular route from which you can explore the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Although most of the route is on minor roads, there are rides suitable for novice and family cyclists, which incorporate easier, traffic-free cycling. You can find these routes here.

The area has excellent rail links, with regular train services between London and the gateway towns of Harpenden, Amersham, Berkhamsted and Tring and in general, bikes can be carried on trains at anytime during weekends.
