World Challenge Expedition: Fundraising Update

Thursday 8 December 2022

Further to our earlier report that in July 2024, twenty intrepid Queenswood students from our current Years 10 and 11, will venture on a 14 day World Challenge Expedition to Borneo, Beth T and Emily S (Year 10) are excited to update us on their fundraising activities in preparation for this extraordinary trip.

World Challenge is an organisation that gives teens aged 15 - 18 an opportunity to travel to vast areas of the world and learn about unique cultures and traditions. This organisation has been going on for 30+ years and they have visited over 44 countries around the world such as Peru, Ecuador and Belize.

Queenswood has partnered with World Challenge and has offered Years 10 to 12 the life-changing opportunity of going to Borneo (an island off Asia) in Summer 2024. During the time between now and our departure, we have to raise £3,500 by fundraising and bringing awareness to World Challenge.

When we arrive at Borneo, a 13 day journey awaits us which consists of volunteering at an Orangutan Sanctuary to support the Wildlife, volunteering at a local school, where pupils have had a unique upbringing, exploring Bako National Park, sleeping in the Jungle and seeing the world from a different point of view.

We have started to fundraise by selling cookies in our local towns, which has been fairly successful. We are also planning on doing a mud run or a fun run next year - we will be setting up a page so people can sponsor us for it. So far we have really enjoyed fundraising.

We would like to thank Miss Yaffe for supporting our fundraising ideas and giving us this opportunity. She has been setting up meetings periodically to talk about what fundraising we can do in school, which has given us a lot of ideas. We are thrilled to go to Borneo in 2024 and we hope that parents and teachers get involved and support us on our challenge of a lifetime.
