Unleash Your Inner Art Critic! Enter the Art UK "Write on Art" Competition!
Do you have a passion for art? Do you enjoy expressing your thoughts through writing? Then we have an exciting opportunity for you!
Art UK, in partnership with the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art, is running its national "Write on Art" competition for young people aged 14-19. This is your chance to explore over 500,000 incredible artworks on the Art UK website and submit your own creative response, critical review, or insightful essay.
Choose your challenge:
- Creative Writing: Let your imagination soar with an expressive piece inspired by an artwork. (Max 400 words for 14-16 year olds, 600 words for 17-19 year olds)
- Review: Share your critical commentary on an artwork or installation. (Max 400 words for 14-16 year olds, 600 words for 17-19 year olds)
- Essay: Delve deeper with a critical analysis of an artwork, supported by evidence. (Max 400 words for 14-16 year olds, 600 words for 17-19 year olds)
What could you win?
Twelve successful applicants will be invited to an exclusive, day-long Young Art Writers Workshop at the prestigious Royal College of Arts in London! This amazing opportunity includes writing and editing sessions, mentoring from industry professionals, and the chance to connect with other young writers. You'll even co-design and produce a zine featuring the shortlisted essays.
The deadline for submissions is 11:59 pm on 30th June 2025.
