Year 12 Academic Mentoring Scheme
Friday 19 January 2024
After the successful Year 12 Community Action Day last term, many of our Year 12 students have been inspired to volunteer more of their time within our own Q community. With this in mind, they will be running an Academic Mentor Scheme for Years 7 to 11.
BENEFITS OF THE SCHEME
The aim of the scheme is to boost academic confidence through peer mentoring. There is a lot of evidence suggesting the benefits of peer mentoring, including: improving critical thinking, boosting confidence, and enhancing emotional skills such as empathy and respect.
HOW WILL IT RUN?
Pupils from Years 7 to 11 can either be suggested by their class teacher or can sign up themselves using this link.
The pupil will first be contacted to request permission to be part of the scheme. Once accepted, the pupil will be assigned a Year 12 mentor.
The mentor and mentee will meet to devise an individual support plan. This could take the form of extra support in a lesson (if applicable with timetables), support during evening study,or support in lunch time clinics. The plan will be reviewed every three weeks.
