Year 12 Drama Students Devise Powerful Verbatim Theatre
Thursday 26 May 2022
For nearly two decades, hundreds of men and women who ran post offices in towns and villages across the UK were accused of losing or stealing money, when in reality, a computer system was to blame.
Year 12 Drama students created a powerful and moving piece of verbatim documentary theatre on the subject, inspired by the techniques of The Paper Birds, a devising theatre company with a social and political agenda. The piece was performed this week to great acclaim in the Clarissa Farr Theatre.
Much of the script was assembled from the actual testimonies of the victims themselves. The students managed to craft these often harrowing true stories into a compelling and highly sophisticated production. The ingenious set and costume designs were also the work of students. Congratulations to everyone involved!
