Year 9 Textiles: Illuminating Blood Bag Project

Friday 19 May 2023

The Blood Bag Project is a craft project that aims to raise awareness of the rare blood condition Diamond Blackfan Anaemia (DBA) and to encourage more people to donate blood. It was set up by textile artist Leigh Bowser, whose young niece Chloe suffers from DBA.

The NHS desperately need new blood donors from all backgrounds to ensure that there is the right blood available for patients who need it - in fact they need 400 new donors a day to meet demand!

Our Year 9 Textiles students have eagerly embraced this very special project and have spent the last few weeks crafting their own unique blood bags from materials including felt, wool, ribbons, beads and braids.

Seeing their artwork has raised awareness at Queenswood about DBA and donating blood, and we hope that our young people will consider becoming donors when they are eligible to do so. We extend our grateful thanks to Mrs Deamer who is organising the Blood Bag craft project at Queenswood and to Lola S (9H) who brought this outstanding work to the attention of the School newsletter team.
