Spring 2017: Week 10 – Careers and Futures
Monday 13 March 2017
I find it hard to believe that the Easter holidays are almost upon us. The girls have been so busy during this short term – I am always astounded at how much the girls manage to pack into their days. We have put together a short film summarising just a few of the many events that have taken place at Queenswood in the last few months, and I thought I would share it with you here.
The Chair of Governors and I were delighted with the verbal feedback from the team of ISI Inspectors who visited the School last week, and I would like to extend my thanks to the entire Queenswood community for their continued support and hard work.
As I’m sure you are aware, we celebrated International Women’s Day this week. As a school we have been considering both the advances in gender equality made over the last century, and the steps that still need to be taken in the 21st century. Our Academic Scholars delivered an extremely powerful Chapel address on the theme on Wednesday 8 March, and they have also produced this short film, which highlights some of the key issues that need to be tackled.
The issue of equal opportunities for women in the workplace is very much in our thoughts at this time of year. On Wednesday 15 March we will be hosting our biannual Careers Convention. We are extremely fortunate that so many parents and Old Queenswoodians are able to give up their time to advise the girls, and we hope that girls will be impressed by the prestigious line-up. In total, 25 professionals representing eight career paths will be conducting panel seminars in the ABC between 4.30pm and 6.00pm.
The following careers will be represented:
Finance, Banking and Business- Law
- Healthcare
- Engineering, Science, Technology and Maths (STEM)
- Diplomatic Service, the Civil Service and the Police Service
- Sport
- Creative Careers
- Media
All girls in Years 10, 11 and 12 will be attending, and parents are more than welcome to accompany them. It promises to be a fascinating and highly rewarding event.
The information booklet, which contains a wealth of careers guidance, is available to view here:
Finally, I would like to thank all girls in advance for their attendance at Open Morning on Saturday 18 March. Queenswood girls are the best possible ambassadors for the school, and the families who attend our tour events are always extremely impressed by the professionalism and eloquence guides who show them round.
