Mandy Hickson – Motivational Speaker
Friday 14 February 2014
On Wednesday 12 February, the Sixth Form enjoyed a tremendous talk by Mandy Hickson, as part of the Sixth Form Lecture Programme.
Mandy left the RAF after serving for 17 years as a front line Tornado GR4 pilot. She is
now a Motivational Speaker also part of the RAF Volunteer Reserve,
flying ATC and CCF cadets in Tutor aircraft.
She offered a snapshot of a very different career as one of
only a handful of female fast jet pilots. She used this to demonstrate
that individuals are only limited by their own imagination and that
everyone should ‘reach for the skies’.
The
general themes of her talk were:
- goal setting, emphasising why it is
important that people break all their goals down into achievable steps, - overcoming adversity,
- teamwork
- motivation and self-belief
It was a fabulous, informative and witty speech, and her audience were extremely impressed.
