Sixth Form Lecture: Rev Jude Bullock
Monday 19 January 2015
As part of this year’s Sixth Form Lecture Programme, Rev
Jude Bullock, a practising minister and teacher of Religious Studies at
Queenswood, delivered a fascinating, thought-provoking and timely talk on the
subject of ‘Faith in Multicultural Society’ on Friday 16 January.
He argued that ‘those who argue against immigration or multiculturalism
do so by claiming that Britain is a “Christian” country…[but] Christian belief
makes no mention of national borders, ethnic origin or even gender – all are
equal.’
In the wake of the recent tragic events in Paris, he spoke
of the need for people of all faiths and none to come together to express
solidarity. ‘The idea of religions as competing truths is gradually being
replaced by seeing religions as different paths ascending the same mountain.’
He concluded by evoking the philosophy of the 12th
Century mystic Meister Eckhart, who saw God as a vast underground river, and different
faith communities as wells, all drawing the same water.
It was a profound and inspiring talk, and we would like to
thank Rev Bullock for his time.
