The ‘Leap of Faith’ – Into the Sixth Form at Queenswood

I wouldn’t say it’s as dramatic as my title makes out, but the main concern of Queenswood girls in Year 11 is not just the jump from GCSEs to A-Levels, but also adapting to the unknown life of a Sixth Former. These differences shouldn’t feel like a shock, but more an adventure waiting to be discovered.
My year group, was made to feel really welcome on the first day in September. We all had an introductory meeting with Mrs Merrell where we found out who we would be sharing a room with. Many positives stood out for me on that first day: the realisation that we get something sweet to eat at break everyday (no more allocated ‘fruit days’); larger personal work spaces – this is such an advantage as we now have extra storage and are able to keep our areas tidy (well… most of us); finally, the chance for our whole year to merge as one again for the first time since Year 8 – a tremendous way to end our final two years at Q.

We also welcome new students from around the world; an opportunity to form new friendships, some of which will last a lifetime.
The benefit of A-Levels compared to GCSEs is that you can specifically focus on your personal interests. You have the chance to explore and study those subjects that you have a passion for and may pursue further at University.

So far the Sixth Form has been a great adventure. I can’t wait to see what the Upper Sixth has in store…
