French
French is an optional language in the Lower School, and many choose to continue the subject as an option at GCSE and A-Level.
The aims of the course are to develop the ability to use French effectively for purposes of practical communication and to form a sound base for the skills, language and attitudes required for further study, work and leisure.
Lessons are conducted substantially in the target language. The teaching is based on a communicative approach and gives equal importance to listening, reading, speaking and writing. These activities are underpinned by the need to acquire a firm grasp of grammar and a wide vocabulary.
There are a variety of co-curricular French clubs at Queenswood, and regular opportunities for study visits to France.
