Music
Music has always been at the heart of a Queenswood education. Whatever the instrument or genre – from electric bass to French horn, from musical theatre to the Chinese guzheng – Queenswood girls will find expert guidance and tuition on offer in our extensive Essame Music Studios.
We believe that everyone should enjoy music-making, and the Music Department encourages all girls, whatever their ability and aspirations, to develop the skills required for performing, composing and listening. Class music studies in Years 7–9, and at GCSE and A-Level, are matched by a full range of individual instrumental and singing lessons.
Opportunities for practical music making are plentiful and diverse. There are choirs, orchestras, bands and chamber music groups bringing together players and singers of all ages, standards and tastes. Regular lunchtime performance platforms encourage less experienced musicians, while a frequent programme of concerts, both inside and outside school, provide occasions for more advanced individual and group performance.
Recent overseas music tours have been undertaken to Tuscany and the Italian Riviera, and our musicians have recently recorded a stunning CD at the world-famous Angel Studios in London.
