This Week I Am Reading… Miss Chloe Bassett – Head of Year 7

Thursday 29 April 2021

Miss Chloe Bassett is Head of Football and Netball at Queenswood in addition to being Head of Year 7. Chloe enjoys motivational literature and shares her review of the international bestseller Atomic Habits by James Clear below.

Do you ever find that there are not enough hours in the day to get everything done? Do you ever set goals that you accomplish and then don’t know how to challenge yourself next, or even set yourself goals that you struggle to achieve in the first instance?

If you answered yes to any of the above, Atomic Habits might well be an interesting read for you. Written by James Clear, it is an international bestseller with over a million copies sold and I am really enjoying the read so far.

An atomic habit is a regular practice or routine that is not only small and easy to do but is also a source of incredible power; a component of the system of compound growth. Echoing Sir David Brailsford 1% marginal gains approach with the British Cycling team at the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympics, this book helps you to understand the effects of small changes in your day-to-day lives and how to break the cycle of bad habits, to form good habits.

The book asks you to think about the person you want to be, and then you work your way backwards to understand the actions you need to take to become this type of person; whether your desired outcome is to become successful, wealthy, healthy or kinder.

In a world where time is limited and therefore precious, understanding the importance of good habits can be the difference between success and failure.
