Thursday 10 June 2021
A group of Year 7 students have enjoyed reading ‘Things the Eye Can’t See’ by Penny Joelson during their Personalised Learning lessons. It is a story of Libby and how she gets embroiled in a mystery which she then has to help solve to save her friends.
Penny Joelson’s creativity and exploration of disability and current societal issues makes the book interesting and exciting.
Katie L reports:
‘A thrilling story about a girl that goes through thick and thin while being visually impaired. The story includes murder, tricky situations and loads more.
Do you believe a girl that can’t see solves the mystery of a missing boy? The story includes her guide dog Samson, who knows when Libby is in danger and when she is stuck in a situation. It has taught me lots about vision impairment and the work of guide dogs. I would recommend this book to anyone because it is a thrilling story that you get sucked in to and you will want to find out what happens next.’
Lola S reports:
‘A fantastic story about a girl that is visually impaired, who ends up in a complicated situation. With her guide dog Samson, she is trying to solve a problem whilst aiming to keep her life together. It explored themes all the way from murder to honesty.
I really recommend this book because there are lots of mysteries which make you never want to put the book down!’
Issy G reports:
‘A fantastic story about a girl and a boy and their group of friends. Libby, who is visually impaired tries to help a fellow student, but she and her friends find themselves in difficulty and get into big trouble. I really recommend this book because you get attached to it and you don't want to put it down! The story highlighted lots of things such as homelessness visual impairment.’
